Academic Senate Junior Faculty Town Hall March 23, 2021 A Town Hall meeting was organized by the Academic Senate on February 11, 2021 to provide an opportunity for early-career faculty (principally, three years pre-tenure through three years post-tenure) to discuss the impacts of the pandemic on their professional lives, and to formulate ideas for ways in which the university might help to Title 5 & Academic Senate. Pursuant to Title 5 of the Administrative Code of California, Section 53200, the Academic Senate is a faculty organization whose primary function is to make recommendations with respect to academic and professional matters as it relates, in particular to the following areas: The Academic Senate acts as the representative body within the faculty through which the responsibilities of the faculty are exercised. The Academic Senate formulates, evaluates, and recommends to the President of the University policies and procedures which pertain to the development, maintenance, and improvement of the University program in academic matters. The Academic Senate is empowered by the Regents to determine academic policy, set conditions for admission and granting of degrees, advise the Chancellor on the campus budget, authorize and supervise courses and curricula, and advise the administration on faculty appointments, promotions, and budgets.

Its committees oversee the curriculum, academic policies, the reappointment, tenure and promotion of faculty and it is the official faculty body to provide opinion on matters affecting the University.
